BRISBANE hotspot Corbett & Claude has been crowned Queensland’s best pizza restaurant, taking out top honours in the prestigious Savour Australia Restaurant and Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence.
The contemporary CBD restaurant and bar won the hotly contested Pizza Restaurant category for Queensland and Northern Territory at the annual awards of the peak national industry body, announced at a gala event in Brisbane this week.
Corbett & Claude owner Tim Johnson said the restaurant was thrilled to snare this major national award, which recognised exceptional service and outstanding culinary talent.
“We are still fairly new to the local hospitality scene, having first opened in 2015, so to receive this award really reflects the energy and culture of our team who have created a pizza restaurant and bar that is welcoming to everyone, while being a little bit different from the norm,” Mr Johnson said.
“Corbett & Claude is not an Italian restaurant in the traditional sense – all our pizzas are quite unique and each has been designed as part of a menu we believe has something to tempt every appetite.”
In its two years of operation, Corbett & Claude has established itself as the place to meet for a sophisticated yet relaxed work lunch, unwind after a busy day in the city, or celebrate the weekend with great food and a friendly crowd.
“We are truly passionate about trying to create a place where people love to be, and that is reflected not only in our menu, but also in the style of the venue itself, which easily transcends from quite a casual, daytime restaurant setting for corporate lunches, to the scene of weekend evening celebrations, and then again has appeal for families, too,” Mr Johnson said.
“We like to describe Corbett & Claude as a meeting place, a gathering ground of sorts, where our customers are invited to gather and enjoy life’s simple pleasures with friends, new and old.”
Mr Johnson said the restaurant sourced highest quality fresh local ingredients, bringing an unmistakable edge to their range of traditional and specialty pizzas.
The ever-evolving menu opens with perennial favourites, such as margherita, four cheese, and capricciosca, then progresses to Corbett & Claude specials, including ‘the director’ (pulled pork, radicchio, red onion, bbq sauce); ‘the consultant’ (thinly sliced potato, crispy prosciutto, rosemary); and ‘the cigar’ (a rolled pizza, featuring ham, mushrooms, caramelised onion, chicken and chipotle), among several others.
For the fresh-minded, a select range of ‘nourish’ pizzas including ‘super greens’, with pesto, snow peas, broccoli, peas, grilled zucchini, and kale, or ‘veggie patch’, with pumpkin, zucchini, caramelised onion, Persian fetta, and pine nuts.
Corbett & Claude offers an extensive range of craft beer, quality wine and creative cocktails.
Part of a family of four venues, in Brisbane City, Indooroopilly, Rhodes, and Garden City, Corbett & Claude was named for infamous architect, Claude Chambers, who designed the historic CBD venue of the restaurant’s first venture, within the original Corbett Chambers building on Elizabeth Street.
Mr Johnson also owns the popular Latin street food phenomena, Comuna Cantina, with two venues in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast, and plans afoot for expansion this year.
Corbett & Claude is open every day from 11am to 11pm at 283 Elizabeth St, Brisbane.
