Journey from hospitality professional to industry leader

Like more than 1.3 million Australians Tim’s hospitality career began at McDonalds as a teenager. After only a few short shifts, Tim made the decision to focus on a career in the hospitality industry with aim of working with the best brands and making a significant mark in the industry. During Tim’s 13 years with the McDonalds he worked his way from operating individual stores to overseeing the management of 35 restaurants across Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory.

Tim’s appreciation of the importance of efficient systems and process learn systems and processes came from working closely with successful franchisees from domestic and international markets. 

Tim’s journey continued when the opportunity to be the Head of Operations for Italian restaurant group, Vapiano, and helped launch the brand into the Australian market. Tim’s experience with McDonalds give him the ability to help successfully launch Vapiano and rapidly open a string of new locations in Queensland and Victoria.  

Tim’s reputation in the industry was met with reward when he was approached to take on the role of State Manager for Grill’d in Victoria and ACT to manage the expansion of the business, before moving into an operations role to help refine their operational systems and process.

Following on from Grill’d, Tim was appointed the State Manager for Yum! Brands iconic Pizza Hut business in Victoria, South Australian and Tasmania, looking after more than 90 stores operating in varying market conditions.  

Now in 2019, Tim Johnson, is known as the creator of popular businesses Corbett & Claude, Comuna Cantina, Mr Claude and Knock Knock Gnocchi that have all been successfully operating for over three years.

Tim’s journey in the hospitality industry continues to evolve, as does his businesses and status as a leader.

In 2017 I had a very big project to work on and I was looking for a voice of authority in business and entrepreneurship and every person that I spoke to put me in Tim Johnson’s direction… after talking and spending some time with him it was with absolute pleasure and shock that I discovered that he was the owner of some of my favourite places…. this is not a review, this is a statement: Brisbane is very lucky to have people like Tim to champion for this city.
